Privacy and Cookie Policy

This policy explains how Data Checks handles personal data and cookies when you use our website, application, API, bulk upload tools, support forms, and related data validation services.

Who we are

data-checks.com is a trading style of Oyster DM Limited, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 16854117 and registered office at Myrtle House, High Street, Henfield, West Sussex BN5 9DA.

For privacy questions, data protection requests, or cookie enquiries, contact us through the support page or by using the contact details published on data-checks.com.

Personal data we process

Account data: your name, business name, email address, password credentials, account settings, billing status, support messages, and audit records.

Service data: email addresses, phone numbers, CSV files, API requests, validation responses, timestamps, IP addresses, API key activity, browser origin or referer hosts where you use client-side keys, per-day request counts for those keys, and usage records that are needed to provide and secure the service.

Billing data: payment status, purchased credit packs, invoice and transaction identifiers, and limited billing information supplied by our payment provider. We do not store full card details.

Website data: device, browser, page usage, log, diagnostic, and cookie data collected when you browse or use the service.

How we use personal data

We use personal data to create and manage accounts, provide data cleaning and validation services, process API and bulk validation jobs, supply results, take payment, provide support, maintain security, prevent abuse, improve reliability, and meet legal or regulatory obligations.

Where you upload or submit customer, prospect, or lead data for validation, you are responsible for ensuring you have a lawful basis to share that data with us and to use the results.

Lawful bases

We usually process account, service, and billing data because it is necessary to perform our contract with you, because we have a legitimate interest in operating and securing the service, because we must comply with legal obligations, or because you have given consent where consent is required.

Processors and sharing

We may share data with trusted service providers that help us host the platform, process payments, send email, store files, monitor performance, provide analytics, deliver support, or prevent fraud. We only share what is reasonably necessary for those purposes.

We may also share data if required by law, regulation, court order, competent authority, or to protect our rights, users, systems, and business.

International transfers

Some suppliers may process data outside the UK. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations, standard contractual clauses, international data transfer agreements, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.

Retention

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy, including service delivery, audit, security, billing, support, legal, and dispute-resolution purposes.

Uploaded files, validation jobs, logs, and support records may be retained for operational, diagnostic, compliance, and account history reasons unless deletion is required sooner by law or agreed in writing.

Security

We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including access controls, authentication, logging, encryption in transit where appropriate, and supplier due diligence. No online service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data. You may also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

If you ask us to act on data that you uploaded about another person, we may direct the request to the relevant account holder unless we are legally required to handle it directly.

Cookies

We use essential cookies and similar technologies to run the website and application, keep users signed in, protect sessions, remember security choices, process forms, and maintain service availability.

We may use functional, analytics, or performance cookies to understand how the service is used, diagnose issues, and improve the product. Where required by law, non-essential cookies will only be used with consent.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may prevent parts of the website, account area, or API dashboard from working correctly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The version published on this page is the current version and applies from the date it is posted.
